Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea premiered in the fall of 2023 with a series of three special screenings held in collaboration with esteemed art institutions across the country. The film debuted in New York City as part of the inaugural installment of Art21 at the Movies, and was accompanied a conversation moderated by curator John Corbett, featuring contemporary artists Trenton Doyle Hancock and Aaron Curry, and Westermann writer & director Leslie Buchbinder. The L.A. premiere was a sold-out screening at the Hammer Museum, which featured a legendary post-screening discussion with Ed Ruscha, Frank Gehry, Leslie Buchbinder, and curator Rani Singh. Our premiere tour culminated with a hometown screening at the Art Institute of Chicago, where the Rubloff Auditorium was transformed into a state-of-the-art 3-D cinema for one night only. Since then, Westermann has screened at numerous cinemas, museums, and universities around the world such as the Music Box Theater, Roxie Theater, Art EXPO, Dartmouth University, RiverRun Film Festival, G.I. Film Festival, and Crosstown Arts, among others, and has garnered multiple awards, including “Best Documentary,” “Best Director,” and “Best Score.”
